Agents

Are Coast to Coast walkers customers of yours?

And if not, would you like them to be?

Then we invite you to join the route’s first every official Passport Stamping Scheme by becoming a stamping agent for the thousands of hikers that could potentially be passing through your door.

It is estimated that 6000 people attempt the Coast to Coast Walk each year helping to generate an annual £7m of economic opportunity – a figure that can only rise now that finally, after 50 years in the waiting, Wainwright’s most famous walk has been granted National Trail status; a recognition long deserved.

In support of this new status, Natural England is investing £5.8m in a Coast to Coast ‘upgrade’ and in anticipation of the increased interest in the route expected from this the not-for-profit community interest company Richmond Yorkshire CIC is administering the route’s first ever official stamping scheme.

Get involved now for the chance to increase your share of this ever-growing market.

Every walker will mark their own adventure from St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay by collecting distinctive ‘Passport Stamps’ at each of the rest stations on the route. There will be 75 official stamping agents covering the 192-mile route, based across 25 locations.

We are currently inviting businesses to sign up as stamping agents in 18 locations on route. Those running pubs, cafes, restaurants, shops, hotels, guest houses, tourist attractions – and anyone else who’s business stands to benefit from taking part.

For a nominal annual fee of £75, agents will receive a publicity ‘package’ including a bespoke stamp and point of sale materials just for them; a listing on the passport itself and mentions in media write-ups and on this website, and the opportunity to purchase exclusive advertising space at a discounted rate within the Passport booklet.

It is hoped in rerun that you will offer walkers a small discount of some kind. This will encourage walkers to visit you and will be agreed in advance when joining the scheme.

  • There will be a limited number of agents permitted in each location to ensure that all agents get their fair share of passing trade.
  • Passports remain valid until fully complete, allowing walkers to finish the route in their own time and over as many return visits as they choose. Once complete, they must be validated at the stamping office before claiming their official Completion Certificate.
  • Every agent will be able to say that they are doing their bit to help support the future sustainably of the route as a share of the proceeds from the sale of passports will be passed on to Northern Trail Partnership to help with the maintenance of the path and to the Wainwright Society to assist with their work to promote the legacy of Alf Wainwright and his love of walking throughout the region.

The Coast to Coast Passport is coordinated by the Richmond Yorkshire Community Interest Company (CIC), a not-for- profit social enterprise limited by guarantee, based in Richmond, seen by most walkers at the half-way milestone of the route.

Funding has been received from North Yorkshire Council, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. The scheme has also been fully endorsed by The Wainwright Society. The CIC will also approach the Lake District National Park, the Westmoreland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council.
